Welcome to Anchorage, Kentucky

Anchorage isn’t just a place to live—it’s a way of life. This close-knit community blends young families, retirees, and longtime residents who share a strong connection to family, neighbors, nature, and education. Tree-lined streets showcase a beautiful mix of historic homes, country estates, cozy cottages, and elegant new builds, all nestled among dogwoods, oaks, and magnolias. Residents enjoy a peaceful, walkable lifestyle—gathering in Wagner Park or around the town gazebo, and taking part in numerous community and school events throughout the year.

Downtown Anchorage has recently undergone a revitalization, with exciting improvements designed to enrich the quality of life for everyone. The city also boasts a rich history. Its name, meaning “a place suitable for anchoring,” dates back to 1868 when Captain James W. Goslee built his estate and named it “Anchorage.” A town steeped in tradition, it evolved from a summer retreat for Louisville’s elite into a year-round haven following the Great Depression. Today, Anchorage is home to nearly 3,000 residents and remains a 4th class city with its own police and fire departments, post office, and the top-ranked Anchorage Independent Public School, which serves around 400 students.
