The Powerhouse – From Utility to Timeless Beauty

The Powerhouse (11411 Park Rd, Anchorage, KY 40223), now the distinctive headquarters of Evergreen Real Estate, holds a unique place in Anchorage’s architectural and historical narrative. Originally built as the power plant serving the nearby Insurance Building (now known as Anchorage Crossings), the structure once supplied energy for one of the town’s most prominent early 20th-century institutions. While its original purpose was purely utilitarian, the building’s solid construction and industrial charm made it an ideal candidate for thoughtful restoration.

In 2000, the entire 7.3-acre property—comprising the Powerhouse, the Insurance Building, and surrounding grounds—was acquired by Evergreen Real Estate. Recognizing both the historical and environmental significance of the site, Evergreen embarked on a mission not only to revitalize the buildings but also to protect the area’s unique character. In fact, this property became the first scenic historic-preservation easement ever granted in the state of Kentucky, setting a precedent for sustainable and respectful development.

The renovation of the Powerhouse was an extensive, painstaking effort. Evergreen Real Estate worked with preservationists, artisans, and craftsmen to restore the building's original character while updating it to meet modern standards. Period-appropriate materials such as reclaimed brick, metalwork, and heavy timber were used to maintain its industrial roots. The end result is a stunning blend of old and new—an inspiring workspace that honors the past while looking to the future.

Today, the Powerhouse stands not just as a functional office space, but as a symbol of Evergreen Real Estate’s mission: to preserve the beauty and heritage of Anchorage while creating vibrant spaces that serve the community. It is a shining example of adaptive reuse, sustainability, and visionary stewardship.
