The Hays House – A Legacy of Community and Connection

The Hays House (11503 Park Rd, Anchorage, KY 40223), now home to Edward Jones, carries with it a quiet but meaningful legacy rooted in education, transportation, and family heritage. The home was purchased by the family of Mary Alice Hays, a beloved retired librarian at Anchorage Public School, who devoted her career to nurturing young minds and fostering a love of reading within the community.

Strategically located for its proximity to the interurban rail line, the house offered the Hays family convenient access to public transportation—a valuable asset during a time when personal vehicles were not yet common. The location also provided a practical commute for those working in Louisville, particularly at the Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company, one of the city’s major employers at the time. For the Hays family, the home was not only a place of comfort but also a practical gateway to opportunity, work, and civic involvement.

Over the years, the structure has been carefully maintained and thoughtfully adapted for modern use. Today, it houses the financial services firm Edward Jones, continuing its tradition of serving the people of Anchorage. Though its function has changed, the Hays House remains a symbol of community connection—linking Anchorage’s past with its present, and continuing to support the town's growth through professional services and personal relationships.
